2022 Petit Theft (St. Lucie County)

Facts: Our client was stopped when leaving Wal-Mart. Asset protection at the store indicated they saw our client put items in his bags that he did not scan at self checkout.

Results: Law enforcement failed to turn in the paperwork from our client’s written arrest. We monitored this every day for 90 days. After the 90 day speedy trial expired we called the law enforcement agency to request they send the documents in so a case could be opened. Once opened we immediately filed a motion for discharge because the state did not bring our client to trial within 90 days. The case was discharged that day and our client does not have to worry about missing court or being surprised later over this case.
